SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Support independent environmental journalism and connect with the reporters, editors and producers covering your issues and industry. Conference partnerships help fund training, mentorship, field reporting experiences and a year-round community for journalists while offering meaningful ways to show up at our annual convening.
-
Choose a conference partnership package designed to meet your goals. Or work with our sponsorships team to build one that matches your goals and budget. Packages may include a mix of workshops, reporting tours, exhibit presence, hosted gatherings and recognition across conference platforms, online and off. Whether you’re looking for broad visibility or deep engagement around a specific issue, partnership packages offer ways to support environmental journalists and show up meaningfully at SEJ2026.
-
Support a hands-on workshop or skills training that helps journalists strengthen their reporting. These sessions focus on practical tools, data literacy and emerging coverage areas. Partners collaborate with SEJ staff and journalist organizers to shape sessions that are educational, relevant, and editorially independent. Workshops are designed to leave journalists with new skills, story ideas and reporting resources you provide and they can immediately apply.
-
Help underwrite immersive, on-the-ground reporting experiences in and around Chicago. SEJ day-long tours connect journalists with local experts, communities researchers, and sites central to major environmental stories. These experiences are a cornerstone of SEJ conferences, giving reporters direct access to sources and firsthand context they can’t get from panels alone. Tours are journalist-led and reporting-focused, offering meaningful engagement while supporting some of the conference’s most impactful programming.
-
Reserve an exhibit table or booth to meet conference attendees face-to-face and share your organization’s work, stories, tools or research. Sampling and swag stations are also available. Our expanded exhibitor hall offers a focused setting for conversation and relationship-building with a highly targeted audience of environmental reporters, editors and producers. Exhibitors receive one basic conference registration, with discounted, additional registrations available.
-
Host a booth at our annual hospitality reception or throw a Friday night beat dinner. These conference networking traditions offer a relaxed setting to connect with journalists around shared interests or coverage areas. Hosts choose the venue, format and topics for beat dinners, and SEJ promotes them, connecting you with attendees. Gathering over drinks or dinner is the primary a way to foster informal relationship-building with SEJ journalists.
-
Table sponsorships support the SEJ Awards Celebration and help bring award-winning journalists, finalists, judges and emerging reporters together in a shared, celebratory space. Sponsors receive hosted seating at the Awards Luncheon and recognition in conference materials and from the awards dais, while directly supporting SEJ’s mission to strengthen independent environmental journalism.
-
Help reduce financial barriers for students and early-career journalists! Support for need-based travel stipends, student attendance and fellowships expands access to SEJ programs and strengthens the future of environmental journalism. Travel stipend supporters receive recognition in conference materials and communications, including our conference newsletter and from our plenary stage.
-
Customize your sponsorship with a la carte options. Add-ons may include agenda advertising, push notifications on our conference app, other digital placements, sponsored webinars and email blasts, or swag and book table distribution. These options are available as enhancements to partnership packages or for exhibitors and offer additional ways to be visible before, during and after the conference.

SEJ maintains strict editorial independence
Support does not influence conference programming or journalistic decisions. The SEJ conference is designed by journalists for journalists. Volunteer co-chairs work with SEJ conference staff to select keynote speakers, plenary sessions and moderated panels proposed by environmental journalists. Participation as a speaker, moderator or tour leader is the editorial decision of session organizers.
